TIMELINE
3-Day Sprint
THE ASK
Whether working from home or , parents are struggling with changes to their work-life balance, especially those related to schooling from home. We were tasked with create a solution for
THE CHALLENGE
Parents find themselves wearing more hats than ever. Many are now working from home, those who continue working outside the home now have no way to know if their child is keeping up with their education. Meanwhile, in the immediate switch to online classes, teachers felt overwhelmed as they struggled to keep their students on track and help parents navigate subjects they hadn’t visited since their own K-12 educations.
OPPORTUNITY
Creating a virtual “village” to tackle distance learning. Most schools use Google Classrooms - so we created an app extension to foster the support students, parents and teachers need.
The Solution
Hometeam for Google Classroom

1 App - 3 Users
The app has three different feature sets depending on how the account is set up. Guardian accounts can send questions or messages to their child's teachers or send their student messages and encouragement - or nudges to keep them on track. The student can easily measure their progress on assignments, see when their next scheduled breaking will occur and get help on their assignments from their teacher or parent. On the teacher's end, their can see their attendance for the day, interact with parents and help students in much the same way as they would have been able to in-person.
Google Classroom currently acts more like a planner. We wanted to recreate the classroom in a virtual space.

The Teacher Dashboard
From their dashboard, teachers can start their virtual classes, see how many of their students have submitted their assignments and quickly navigate to important screens like their class roster, assignments and help requests from parents and students.
Individual and Class Progress
Teachers have access to a virtual attendance sheet. The sheet shows which students are active or offline.
They link to Student Profiles where teachers get a broader look at the student's work, their family and notes about the progress and status of each student.

Positive Reenforcement
Teachers can send students High-fives for the good work they're doing - or nudges if they need a little help getting started. They can also make class-wide or parent announcements.
TAKEAWAYS
Lex, Lauryn and I were an awesome team. We were table to get so much done in just 3 days. We were briefed Friday evening, dove into research - which came easily because we knew about the issue and from there we were able to quickly make decisions about what the solution should be.

We won second place for this project and got some great feedback! I was really lucky to have the opportunity to present this in front of the judges.
